InformationWeek survey (none / 2) (#99)

Yesterday I completed a survey for InformationWeek that was titled Will Linux Surge in 2006. Couple interesting questions that were included:

What impact has the SCO Group's lawsuit regarding the alleged illegal use of Unix source code in Linux had on your organization's move to open-source software?
We have limited our deployment of open-source software.
We have postponed deployment of open-source software.
We will not move to open-source software as a result of it.
Too soon to tell.
No effect

Unfortunately, they didn't give an option of something like "it enhanced our move" (due to increased understanding/knowledge of Linux with the coverage). I also noted that they give three different options for people to choose with regard to negative impacts (delayed, limited, or outright refusal) and only one option for "no effect". Likewise, I don't think they meant it this way, but the choice of "Too soon to tell" makes no sense - the organization has had some kind of reaction, so I'm not sure how it can be "too soon to tell" what your own reaction is. They probably meant something like, "we haven't made a decision yet while we watch the lawsuit" which I would contend is the same as the second choice (delay).

Has your organization asked its Linux software suppliers - or have suppliers volunteered - to indemnify it from potential lawsuits by SCO or other organizations?
Yes, we asked for it.
Yes, the vendor offered.
No
Does not apply.

I suppose technically the answer is "no" for those who do not believe such indemnification even makes sense.

I'll be interested to see how the results are presented and any spin.
