Damages are only loosely related to the balance sheet value or purchase cost of the property,

And of course that's just what SCO will argue.

(a) Of course the value is low, because IBM's action weakened it.

And for the historic value pre any mainstream linux:

(b) That only represent's a point in time value relative to the business goals of the seller, with further development etc. its long term income stream was potentially much greater.
