The Court room was nearly deserted. I did not see any lawyers, FBI agents, press reporters, observers from Novell, or Czechoslovakian secret agents. Since I am not too fluent in Utahn, I decided to remain inconspicuous. The judge was firm and fair and very observant; any divergence from the case was quickly stopped.

Merkey was a surprise. He sounds lucid and intelligent; totally unlike his writing style. Merkey is taller than I thought, about six feet; but is fat, bald and wears glasses. It is hard not to laugh; as I cannot imagine him galloping across Oklahoma, Cherokee style.

Despite Merkey's intelligence, he still did not understand that you must serve papers on someone, before getting them in court. Also surprising for someone who claims to be a scientist, is that he cannot change his mind when new facts come to light. Facts must be suppressed when they disprove his theory.
