I've been spending some time lately learning how to rip DVD's using Linux. As I have learned, ripping them to the hard drive is not too hard. I'm trying to figure out how to get them compressed so they'll fit on a normal DVD now, which has not been easy (or successful thus far). Although I have figured out that my burner should be able to handle dual layer DVD's, so maybe I won't need to compress them. If I want to pay the steep price for the DVD-DL's.

Anyway, I just happened run across a beta of a new product from Nero for a Linux version of their Burning ROM application. I'm doing a little testing right now and it seems to be pretty nice. Not as nice as k3b that I normally use. And it does not appear to be open source by any stretch of the imagination.

So, probably not for me or most of the folks that visit this site. The bigger picture though is the fact that Nero is probably responding to customer demands to port their application over to Linux. I take that as good news!
