Paranoia

As an aside, if "goodness" was measured by lines of code contributed
to open source, then Sun would be the best entity after UC Berkeley.

But I digress.

Best,
Daniel Carrera.
OpenOffice.org volunteer.

several replies to it and lots of discussion about it.
and yes this one you can bookmark and show back to me.a true pj bash.
i think in her replies to daniel she expressed more than she probably meant to.
trusting the software because of who submitted?what company?
what about the many eyes?
she threatens to quit using it because of who helps donate it to us?
who is she to try to control the software submissions now?
i have said that if she is allowed any honorary positions within the community to look out,
i was wrong. just her soapbox from groklaw is dangerous if she threatens to not use the product of  the software developers like this.
she doesnt have to use OO,that is her choice but to attack from a political perspective or even personal perspective is wrong.
what do you think?

To be honest I wouldn't read anything FOSS-like into this episode, its just fragility.

Personally think the emphasis may have been more along the lines of:

'If you keep talking like this, I may stop using OpenOffice.'

rather than

'If you keep talking like this, I may stop using OpenOffice.' which most people picked up on.

[I would have rated that comment as a 1 or 2 (probably a 1 because it was the webmistress 'trolling')].

The rest was mere justification.

Its easy to make a mistake on the net, its difficult to recover.

There is no need for you to 'bash' anyone or defend yourself from such accusations. I noticed today on the CKX board where you simply apologised for plonking somebody.

The diferences in response to mistakes make a contrast that speaks volumes.

I think that not using a software package just because you diaagree with a comment made by one of its developers will cause you to have to only use software you code yourself. I have no idea what PJ is thinking in this instance. I would hope that she is not thinking at all because what she says is simply ludicrous.

I disagree eith Theo rather regularly, but I thank him profusely for taking such good care of OpenSSH which I can not live without.

IMO PJs comment could only have been written by someone on the edge of complete mental breakdown.
There is a partial apology from her much later in the thread that sounds as if she has pulled back from the brink a little.
