By JCausey, Section IP-wars.net Site Issues
This is my proposed rewrite of the Standard Operating Procedures for the site. Some minor changes to clear up some things that I think needed it and the addition of a section on Acceptable Use and bit on what may I may do to protect the site.
If interested, you can access a pdf of the redline version. Please note that final formatting and links have not been added to this version. Also, rewrites of both the Privacy Policy and the Operating Instructions (aka FAQs) will be up soon as all three work together to some extent.
Welcome to the official legal "stuff" page of the site. It would be really nice to have a simple set of policies for a site like this, perhaps something like the Golden Rule - you know, do unto others... Unfortunately, the world seems to be full of people bent on destruction and mayhem and a simple policy just won't do in the world we inhabit. Personally, I don't put a lot of faith in long, detailed policies either as someone intent upon abusing the site will find some loophole. Even though we have this long policy, the following statement from mikey sums up the intent of our policies:
Allow the site to be spidered, syndicated, deep-linked, quoted, and distributed as far and as wide as possible. Invite people ... to come up with creative ways to make use of the information. Invite others to mirror the entire ... site in case Jeff gets hit by a bus. Invite others to duplicate the site entirely because they don't like us or what we are saying.
So without further ado: By posting a comment here, you are granting ip-wars.net permission to allow the use of your comments pursuant to the attribution, share-alike CCL. Effective Nov. 12, 2004 at approximately 11:07 a.m. EST, the site and all contributions are licensed under an attribution, share-alike CCL, so it is possible other sites or Internet users may grab your comments off of here pursuant to that license. In addition, any material posted here prior to Nov. 12, 2004 at approximately 11:07 a.m. EST was licensed under an attribution, non-commercial CCL, and such license continues to apply to those contributions. There is no attempt to prevent mirroring, spidering, searching, or caching of the site. So who knows where your stuff may end up. By posting here, you also grant us the right to remove your comment if we choose not to want it here. We do not edit comments, except in extreme cases of comments which include html or other characters that damage the usability of the site. We do NOT remove comments that are inappropriate or offensive to the admins. We trust our users will use the rating system to mod these down to invisibility. Luckily, Scoop has features built in to prevent crapflooding, so hopefully this will not be a problem. If you violate someone else's copyright, we may take action to remove the offending material, especially if the copyright holder requests this.
You lose no copyright control over your words, and are not beholden to us in any way shape or form.
Acceptable Use We reserve the right to modify this policy at any time. Please direct all questions regarding this policy to jcausey@ip-wars.net (be sure to read the disclaimer below before sending an e-mail).
Third party materials submitted to IP-wars.net:
Attribution:
Article Contributions: You also, by submitting a contribution here, warrant that it is your original writing, and not plagiarized from any other published source. ip-wars.net is not responsible for checking the accuracy or originality of any submission, nor will we be liable for plagiarism or the truth or lack thereof of any submission.
E-mail to the site owner:
I reserve the right to use any e-mail you send to me as either a testimonial of how great ip-wars.net is or me personally, or as evidence of some of the stupid stuff sent to me via e-mail. If you do not want your e-mail to be used in such a manner, don't send it!!!
Looking to disrupt the site? Anyway, if you are one of the people interested in disrupting the site, please be aware that I may use a variety of resources available to me to protect the site and keep in running. This may include features built into the Scoop software, steps that involve the server itself, or involvement of third parties where necessary (e.g ISP's or appropriate law enforcement authorities). Oh yeah, you may get your username listed on the Administrative Actions page as well. So instead of trying to prove how sneaky, cunning, l33t, or whatever you are, why don't you take the time to write an article about an intellectual property issue?
