samples of logic

Groklaw

this is just a few samples of some of the arguments given by EGBs.they really show the level to which they are willing to sink.i deliberately left off some of the real ad hominem attacks because this is a real serious discussion here.the threads can all be found on http://yah.warmcat.com/   if you want to follow the different threads.
following logical discussion seems to be very hard to do.i admit i even get so mad sometimes that i react before thinking.
my point being that i am sure glad that they dont represent us.
they really do make groklaw *shine*

Tin Foil Hat?

Groklaw

Posted on Mon Dec 20th, 2004 at 15:56:46 EST

i was doing some searches like i do a lot of,just using keywords.i do this fairly often so i was surprised when i ran across a brand new to me link.
https://lists.dulug.duke.edu/pipermail/dulug/2003-October/014403.html
after visiting it i wondered who james manning was so while searching turned up
http://www.sublogic.com/james/resume/resume.html
so then kept searching and then this link comes up and my hat is squeezing my head and i have no idea what it means.
http://www.ussg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0003.0/0039.html
now conspiracies are fine but this just raised the hair up a little.so i said i cant find the original request on the dulug list for the groklaw request  and needed help with that, and then add this other stuff and it is just maybe beyond me. so i need to post and get some help and see what comes up.

no search for authors now.
how do you get any use out of groklaw now?
if you canT do search for specific darl quotes what is the use of the search function?
also can you even search if you arent a registered member now? for anything? sounds more proprietary than ever to me
what do you think?

under assault

General News

since the last entry to my dairy started such a firestorm and i was accused of bashing pj well lets at least make it true.
we wouldnt want potential recruits to be labeled liars now would we?
bashing in the dictionary means per www.dictionary.com

bash    ( P )  Pronunciation Key  (bsh)
v. bashed, bash·ing, bash·es
v. tr.

   1. To strike with a heavy, crushing blow: The thug bashed the hood of the car with a sledgehammer.
   2. To beat or assault severely: The police arrested the men who bashed an immigrant in the park.
   3. Informal. To criticize (another) harshly, accusatorially, and threateningly: "He bashed the... government unmercifully over the... spy affair" (Lally Weymouth).

i havent hit her so 1 is out
2 i havent beat her
3 criticise harshly and threateningly if this is the one then someone please show me the link?
please show me where i ever threatened her?
show me where i harshly criticised her.

if anything i feel i have been very generous in what i say about pj.you may not like the message because it is not pleasant to have the news that what you felt and believed was a F/OSS site is not one,but the facts speak for themselves.shooting the messenger wont change that fact.

now to talk about the PR's coming here,it strikes me that most that are posting may not even be F/OSS advocates and that is why they dont care.
groklaw attracted a wide following and not just F/OSS people and this may be why i have a hard time understanding how a F/OSS advocate would defend attribution removal.in fact this is the only thing that makes sense to me,when you consider how important they count copyright themselves.they arent advocates of F/OSS.
they want to be called advocates but havent learned that whether you like someone or not has nothing to do with F/OSS.it is passed on to all with no discrimination at all, shared freely with all.they dont grok it after all.

What am I doing here? Part 2

General News

lots of you know what irc is and how it is different from web sites with chat.
i joined a mandrake channel because that was the distro i was going to use.
after a few months i became voice on the channel which means special powers.it was quite an honor but mine was not for my knowledge and i always felt undeserving of it.but someone explained to me it was because i didnt mind helping and always answering questions even when i didnt know the answer i would still encourage them to be patient and that someone would check the screen shortly and see the question.
the channel is owned by a gent named harry.harry can be a typical jerk at times but he can be the sweetest at times.harry and i have had go rounds but one thing between is a lot of respect and it is evident.harry has spent hours helping me when i ended up in a mess and not knowing which way to go next for a specific mandrake problem.when i am sick i can read and read but it doesnt make sense so all the info is jumbled and if it is a critical problem it cant wait for me to feel better.harry is the one who comes thru and will just fix or help me fix in the easiest way he can find.
harry thank you for that always.i nearly gave up when i went to mandrake 9.2 but harry fixed it and i kept going.i have neglected #mandrake but they know i check in occasionally to make sure everyone is ok.
now we come to the other part of the story.groklaw was found thru a slashdot link back last year.
i wish i remembered the date but it was may/june time frame i think.it was presented as community effort and as F/OSS ideas  but as we learned that isnt true.
as a result of that disappointment we now have ip-wars.net created by jeff.thanks jeff.
are we perfect?no but we are learning and we are growing.
the potential is here and it is up to each of us to do *our* part.we are accepting criticisms and trying to improve from them.not by ignoring and hiding them.
do we compete with groklaw? possibly in a small way but for the most part i think we strive to really just be different with our own F/OSS type web site.

i cant say enough about Bluesman.
my friend and mentor that i go to when i am absolutely stuck for an answer.he always figures out a way for me to go forward or to turn around and backtrack.keeps me sane and from pulling all my hair out.patience of a saint.can you tell i worship him?
well i almost do.he may get excited and get frustrated that i dont understand but he never gives up on me.Bluesman is part of the #kde channel on efnet also.and funny thing is he doesnt even run kde.but he has spent time helping me to search for answers lots of times.people say online friends arent real but i disagree.i have real life friends that i talk to in person but i also have real life friends that i talk to online.both are equally respected.
Bluesman thank you for all your help!

What am I doing here?

seems like a first entry should tackle this question for me.a non tech grandmother on a tech board among geeks?how did i end up here?
i discovered linux 3  1/2 years ago.i was teching on a very small irc server that was mostly females and all we talked about was crafts and arts and rubberstamps.a guy from efnet showed up and some things he said made me curious about linux so i went to efnet and wow.that was such a confusing world.but i was lucky on the #kde channel there were so many good people to help guide and answer my questions.taught me how to search for answers for myself.taught me about google.
took me 6 months to decide which distro to try first.i read everything i could find about 3 different distros slackware, redhat and mandrake.we had narrowed to those because of my not having any tech background.i went to the different support channels and watched to see how newbies were treated and how their questions were answered.
i went to forums that were dedicated to these 3 distros to see if the answers made any sense.i did all of this before even getting the discs to install.lots of questions were still being answered by a lot in #kde to help me focus on what i needed specifically also.
i finally decided on mandrake 8.2
talk about butterflies.
i was petrified.the install went beautiful with no problems, except security wise.
took 3 days of for me to get everything turned off that i didnt need cause i had started all processes and servers.finally all of that was done so then i needed a firewall and this had all been discussed which i should install.i had decided on killerwall.the coder for this one was in the channel and the others supported it .got it installed finally and i wont mention all the embarassments that happened during that time but killerwall is easy to use and all the fault was mine and anothers.'nough said.a fabulous guy with the nick kbird was a big help fixing the damage.
now comes the fun.
konsole/shell.well everyone kept using different terms and that is very confusing.i called it the tv icon.but for months i thought shell was different from a konsole.they arent.
i learned next how to install a tar.gz
what fun.command line
my eyesite and command line was so much fun,i still laugh today about it.now i am comfortable with using commands a lot.in fact in some things i much prefer command line vs gui.
i was encouraged to try different browsers(lynx,links2,konq,mozilla);irc clients(irssi, epic, kvirc, ksirc, xchat).
i will always be grateful to the guys on efnet #kde channel for my start with linux.
