Important Site InformationPLEASE NOTE - Anonymous posting temporarily disabled due to the spambot attack. It will be turned back on as soon as I can block this current wave of spambots. Sorry. Did you know this site's content is primarily - YOURS? Yes, the site owner occasionally contributes an article (in between playing around with the Scoop stuff). But mostly, it is up to you our readers and members to write the articles about IP that you want others to know about. DiaryBy sphealey, Section Diary

Absolutely hilarious article in Software Development Times nails it on the head:
APRIL 1 -- The SCO Group is preparing to reverse its flagging fortunes by launching a Unix infringement lawsuit against itself, according to documents obtained by this reporter.Read the whole thing, as they say! sPh (2 comments) Comments >> By sphealey, Section Diary
Michael Schrage, "codirector of the MIT Media Lab's eMarkets Initiative", has an interesting essay in the current issue of CIO Magazine arguing that ethics are neither necessary nor desirable for a CIO:
I'm provoked into asking these questions by an accelerating and dangerous trend infecting boardroom and office suite discussions. That trend is the pea-brained "ethics-ification" of business decision making and implementation: CEOs are supposed to be Chief Ethics Officers; CIOs should be Chief Integrity Officers. How noble. How politically correct. How silly. He goes on to give an example of a high-stress implementation project where operations will be outsourced at the end: Suppose that once your major CRM system implementation is completed and rolled out in a year, your company plans to outsource maintenance and support. There's a better than 60 percent chance that you'll lay off two-thirds of the IT workers who were involved. Is it "unethical" for you not to fully disclose the details of their possible future (or lack thereof) as they work feverishly to make deadline? I don't think so; do you?Interesting. Read the whole thing, including his conclusion - I would be curious to hear your viewpoint. sPh (12 comments) Comments >> |
